ABOUT THE SALAAM (the bi-monthly publication of Al Amin Shriners). Scribe just received the July-September edition. It is a first class product: colorful, easy to read, excellent graphics. Kudos to Editor Barbara Schroeter. At Al Amin, there’s Bingo every second Wednesday and the Opry is every third Thursday.

FISHING CHAMPION IS A MASON  ---  On the first page of the sports section of the Caller-Times of Thursday, 7/14, there was a huge photo of the champion fisherman in a recent local tournament: E. E. “Buster” Williams of San Antonio. He is a 33rd degree Scottish Rite, York Rite Order of the Purple Cross, and Deputy Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Texas.

See below; read about relaxed qualification to join National Sojourners, and to see comments submitted from some attendees at the Youth Leadership Conferences held aboard the Lexington Museum in June.

RELAXED QUALIFICATIONS TO JOIN NATIONAL SOJOURNERS, INC. This is the change: honorable service at any rank now qualifies one for regular membership. We have quarterly dinner meetings, bringing our ladies, girlfriends, and guests. It’s a very pleasant evening. At the next meeting, Thursday August 31, we will be inducting some new members. Come out and we will have application blanks available. This is the information you will need to supply: full name, branch of service, years served, was separation by discharge or retirement, date of birth, mailing address, phone numbers (office, cell & home), e-mail

address, and wife’s name. Scroll down to August 31 for details about the next quarterly dinner meeting of local National Sojourners John J. Harris Chapter 397. Notify Chapter Sec/Treas Tom Wimberly if you are going to attend with the intent of joining, or if you have any questions. (361/992-1946, or e-mail twimbo@aol.com)

ONE OF THE LAUDABLE THINGS OUR SOJOURNER CHAPTER DOES IS SPONSOR ATTENDEES AT THE YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES, conducted by the Military Order of the World Wars, held aboard the LEXINGTON MUSEUM (and elsewhere about the state). HERE ARE COMMENTS made by a few attendees at the June conferences.

“Thank you for giving me the amazing opportunity to attend the Youth Leadership Conference aboard the Lexington. Your sacrifice has sprouted growth in me not just in leadership, but in many facets of my life. In the short five days, I was able to grow more as a student, leader, follower, teammate and much more than I ever would through normal schooling. Thank you for providing me with an experience that will resonate with me for a long time to come.” (from Daniel D.) Partial quotes from others: “I was enriched and really cherished every second of this conference. I got to learn new skills and meet new people that have changed my life for the better.” (from Vanessa M.) “I was able to learn new styles of leadership, and how to get out of my comfort zone. I was able to do things I never thought possible. Thank you a thousand times over.” (from Cadet Captain R.) “Thank you for funding my leadership journey. In the beginning, speaking to strangers was a difficulty. After my experience here, I now have the necessary skills to lead a group to success. This learning experience has forever changed my life. I will now lead my generation to a better future.” (from Fisher C.)

DEL MAR 1350 HAS LOST TRACK OF A MEMBER. He is Alberto Castro, 5838 Leopard St, Corpus Christi, TX 78408. Is anyone in touch with him, or aware of his situation? For Del Mar: have you called Grand Lodge to see what they have on him? Have you done an obituary search? These are preliminaries that should be pursued before going to the list of Hiram’s followers.

WEB SITE OF INTEREST: RockportMasonicLodge323.com. Check it out. It was created and is maintained by Julian Hjulian, who was just installed as Sr. Steward at Rockport 323.

RAISE THEM YOUNG. Since the age for petitioning went down to 18, how many young men are we getting? Corpus Christi 189 raised to Master Mason in late June a young man at the age of 19 years, 7 months and 23 days. Scribe would like to publish names and ages of Masons raised at the age of 20 or younger. Send them in. Corpus Christi’s youngster is James Dwight Hedrick, III. He is a third-generation Hedrick to belong to CC 189. (Note from the Scribe: I haven’t had any responses to my invitation.)

A BROTHER’S NEW ENTERPRISE. Jack Lutenbacher (Chamberlain Lodge, CC York Rite bodies, hometown Kingsville) has established himself in a new business: “Serenity Pest Control.” He has lots of experience in that field. 361/317-2256www.serenitypestcontrol.com,SerenityPest@gmail.com.

ANOTHER BROTHER’S NEW ENTERPRISE. Matthew Pinkston (Mathis Lodge 1133) has started Pyramid Construction and Excavating. Any construction or dirt work, to include: stock tanks, driveways, roads, fencing and post holes, burn pits, new construction, demolition and clean up, land clearing, stump removal, shredding and mowing. You can reach them at (361) 453-8506 or on Facebook under "Pyramid Digs."
