REMARK ABOUT LODGES OPEN HOUSE
Twice the Scribe has sent a letter to the editor of the CC Caller-Times telling about the open houses. To date, the letter has not been published.

INTERESTING TIDBIT PROVIDED BY GRAND JUNIOR WARDEN PAUL UNDERWOOD. The R:.W:. recently attended a Grand Master’s Conference at the Masonic Temple in Fort Worth. The basement of the building houses a museum in which are many artifacts connected with the Masonic Home and School. (R:. W:. Underwood is a Home and School graduate.) There are about 60 photos and bios of graduates who have made a mark in the world. He found that a certain graduate of the Home and School was a hero of World War II, a Naval Aviator, an ace with 13 kills to his credit. He is Daniel M. Truax, a 1941 graduate. His decorations included the Navy Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star and numerous Air Medals. The interesting connection has to do with how Naval Air Stations and their airfields are named, and how the control tower is called. The process is not uniform. For example, the air station at Pensacola is NAS Pensacola, but the airfield is Sherman Field and the pilot calls “Sherman Tower.” At Beeville, the Air Station was NAS Chase Field and the airfield was Chase Field, named for Nathan B. Chase, and the pilots called “Chase Tower.” At NAS Miramar in San Diego, the air field is named Mitscher Field, but the pilots call “Miramar Tower.” Here’s the local connection: the air station here in Corpus Christi is NAS Corpus Christi, but the airfield is named Truax Field in honor of the Home & School graduate -- but when you call the tower, it’s “Navy Corpus Tower.”

NOTICE. The current issue of “The Texas Mason” contains a story of local interest. Grand Master Wendell P. Miller and Grand Librarian Orville L. O’Neill are shown in a photo with a magnificent collection of vintage pocket watches. The photo is captioned: At the 181st Grand Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Texas, Brother Herbert C. Arbuckle, III, Past Master of Loma Alto Lodge No. 544, donated to the Library & Museum a collection of vintage pocket watches. Previously, Brother Arbuckle donated two other watch collections to the Library & Museum. The donation was accepted by the Grand Master and the Grand Librarian. Brother Arbuckle was unable to personally present the watches to the Library & Museum. However, a photograph of Brother Arbuckle made a good stand in. The Library & Museum would like to thank Brothers David Alexander and Armando Caceres, both Past Masters of Oso Naval Lodge No. 1282, for delivering the watches to the Library & Museum on behalf of Brother Arbuckle.
